Color Retention PPGL Steel Coil for Aluzinc Metal Roofing Sheet
Metal roofing sheet is the end product, but the roof's appearance is decided at the coil coating stage. This PPGL steel coil is built for roofing sheet producers who need the finished roof to hold its color through decades of sun and rain: an aluzinc substrate for corrosion protection, a UV stable polyester top coat for color stability, and consistent mechanical properties so the profiling line runs without adjustment between coils.
Roofing sheet lines are unforgiving about variation. A small change in yield strength or coating friction changes the profile shape, and a small change in color shows on the finished building. Consistency between coils is therefore as important as the specification of any single coil.

Why Roofing Producers Choose It
- Consistent yield strength keeps the profile shape stable across a run.
- Aluzinc substrate extends roof life at laps and cut edges.
- UV stable coating protects the shade the customer selected from the brochure.
- Coating friction controlled so panels feed evenly on the roll former.
- Batch color data supports warranty documentation for the finished roof.
Roofing Sheet Types
- Trapezoidal and corrugated roofing profiles
- Standing seam and concealed fix panels
- Insulated roofing panel face sheets
- Tile effect and architectural roofing profiles
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does yield consistency matter for roofing?
Because the roll former is set once. If the next coil is harder or softer, the profile ribs change shape and the panels no longer nest. Holding yield within a narrow band keeps the line stable.
What gauge is typical for roofing sheet?
Most profiles run between 0.40 and 0.60 mm. Thinner gauges are used on economy profiles but are more sensitive to oil canning and fixing damage.
Can the coil be supplied slit to my line width?
Yes. We slit to order and deburr the edges, since a rough slit edge is where corrosion starts on a finished roof panel.
What documentation comes with the coil?
Mill certificate, coating batch record, color measurement data and the profile relevant mechanical properties, so the roofing producer can pass a complete pack to their own customer.
Packing and Delivery
Coils ship eye to sky with PVC film, paper interleaving and steel strapping on wooden pallets, labelled with heat number, coating batch and mechanical properties. For lines running automated decoiling, confirm the mandrel diameter so we set the coil eye and wrap tension to suit.
Coil Handling on the Line
Keep coils on pallets rather than directly on concrete, and allow cold coils to reach ambient temperature before profiling. A coil unwound cold behaves differently on the roll former, and the coating is more brittle at low temperature, which shows up as fine cracking at the ribs of the finished sheet.
The substrate is Aluzinc AZ100 - AZ150, S250GD or S350GD. The AZ designation describes the aluminium-zinc alloy coating weight, which is what gives cut edges and drilled holes their sacrificial protection. A higher coating weight extends time to red rust, but it also changes forming behaviour, so the grade should be matched to the exposure class of the finished building.
Coating thickness matters more than coating brand in service: Top 20 - 25 micron, primer 5 micron. Below roughly 20 micron total build, UV exposure in strong sun starts to chalk the surface within a few years, and the colour drifts before the steel itself shows any problem.
Formability is specified as T bend 2T at 0.5 mm gauge. This determines whether the strip can be roll formed and folded at the job site without cracking the coating over the bend radius, which is the most common cause of premature coating failure on roofing panels.

10 metric tons. Smaller trial runs are quoted separately because coating line setup cost per ton rises sharply below that volume.
15 - 25 days after deposit, counted from receipt of the deposit. Gauge, width and whether the shade is held in stock all affect the schedule.

On this specification the coating build is Top 20 - 25 micron, primer 5 micron and the expected service life is 20 - 25 years color retention in C3 environment. Durability figures assume the material is installed and maintained within the environment class stated.
Yes. On this specification the substrate is Aluzinc AZ100 - AZ150, S250GD or S350GD and bending performance is T bend 2T at 0.5 mm gauge, which covers normal profiling and standing seam forming.
ISO 9001, EN 10169, EN 10346. Mill certificates and third party test reports can be issued with the shipment.
