Aluzinc substrate, a zinc aluminium alloy coating, resists atmospheric corrosion roughly two to three times longer than an equal weight of plain zinc in the same environment. Pairing it with a high durable polyester top coat gives a coil that behaves well in humid coastal air, industrial atmospheres and agricultural buildings where ammonia and dust are constant.

The anti chalking top coat is what keeps the visible surface from turning pale once the binder begins to degrade. On aluzinc the coating also has to bond to a smoother, harder alloy surface than plain galvanized, so the pre treatment and primer are adjusted specifically for it.

Buyer Questions

Is aluzinc better than galvanized for every project?

Not every one. Aluzinc excels in humid and industrial atmospheres and at cut edges. In strongly alkaline environments, such as fresh concrete contact, plain zinc can be preferable, so the service environment should be stated when ordering.

Can the coil be welded?

Welding through the coating is not recommended. If welding is required, the coating should be removed locally and the joint recoated afterwards with a compatible repair system.

How is the coating adhesion verified on aluzinc?

With a cross hatch test before and after a 24 hour water soak. The smoother alloy surface makes adhesion control more critical than on plain galvanized steel.

What is the standard delivery time?

Fifteen to twenty five days after deposit for stocked shades, longer for special colors because the coating line requires a dedicated run and cleaning cycle.

Packing Notes

Coils are wrapped in PVC film with paper interleaving, strapped on wooden pallets and labelled with heat number, alloy coating weight and coating batch. For humid destinations we add desiccant in the container and specify a heavier wrap to prevent condensation marking during transit.

Maintenance and Inspection

Aluzinc roofs need less attention than painted galvanized roofs, but they are not maintenance free. An annual visual check of flashings, fixings and cut edges is normally enough in a C3 environment, and any scratched area should be touched up with a compatible repair paint within the same season, before moisture has time to work under the film.

The substrate is Aluzinc coated steel AZ100 - AZ150. The AZ designation describes the aluminium-zinc alloy coating weight, which is what gives cut edges and drilled holes their sacrificial protection. A higher coating weight extends time to red rust, but it also changes forming behaviour, so the grade should be matched to the exposure class of the finished building.

Coating thickness matters more than coating brand in service: Top 20 - 25 micron, primer 5 micron. Below roughly 20 micron total build, UV exposure in strong sun starts to chalk the surface within a few years, and the colour drifts before the steel itself shows any problem.

Formability is specified as T bend 2T without cracking. This determines whether the strip can be roll formed and folded at the job site without cracking the coating over the bend radius, which is the most common cause of premature coating failure on roofing panels.
