AZ150 Aluzinc Color Coated Steel Coil 20 Year Color Retention
AZ150 means 150 grams of zinc aluminium alloy coating per square metre, a heavier build than the AZ100 material often used on lower cost roofing. On a roof, that extra alloy mass shows up at the places that fail first: cut edges at laps, drilled fixing holes and the thin steel around them. Combined with a UV stable color coat, this coil gives a roof two independent protection systems, one metallic and one painted.
The 20 year color retention figure refers to the painted surface, while the AZ150 substrate protects the steel where paint cannot reach. Understanding that split is essential when comparing quotes, because a competing offer with the same paint build on a lighter substrate will look identical on paper and fail earlier on the roof.

What AZ150 Gives the Roof
- Heavier alloy coating extends the corrosion path at cut edges and laps.
- Higher alloy mass suits longer service intervals on industrial roofs.
- UV stable paint system keeps the visible shade from washing out.
- Bend and impact results suit profiling without losing edge protection.
- Documented coating mass per coil for tender submissions.
Roof Types That Use It
- Industrial warehouse and factory roofing
- Logistics and distribution centre roofs
- Agricultural sheds with long service expectations
- Public and institutional buildings with warranty requirements
Buyer Questions
How is the alloy coating mass verified?
By triple spot test on samples from each coil, with the result printed on the inspection certificate that ships with the delivery.
Does AZ150 replace the need for edge sealing?
No. Heavier alloy coating slows cut edge corrosion but does not stop it. On exposed cuts we still recommend a compatible edge sealer, especially on coastal or industrial sites.
Can the coil be supplied in structural grades?
Yes. S250GD and S350GD are available where the profile carries load, and we confirm the required yield strength against the purlin spacing before quoting.
What is the minimum order?
Five metric tons for stocked shades, with a higher minimum for special colors because the line needs a dedicated run.
Packing and Documents
Coils are wrapped in PVC film with paper interleaving, strapped on wooden pallets and labelled with heat number, alloy coating mass and coating batch. The delivery pack includes the mill certificate, coating mass report and color measurement data, which together let a project engineer verify the specification without taking samples from site.
Installation Notes
Heavier alloy coatings still need sensible detailing. We recommend cutting panels with a dedicated profile shear rather than an abrasive disc, because abrasive cutting throws hot particles that embed in the coating and become rust points within a season. Fixings should be driven to the profile maker's torque setting so the washer seals without deforming the pan.
The substrate is Aluzinc AZ150, S250GD or S350GD. The AZ designation describes the aluminium-zinc alloy coating weight, which is what gives cut edges and drilled holes their sacrificial protection. A higher coating weight extends time to red rust, but it also changes forming behaviour, so the grade should be matched to the exposure class of the finished building.
Coating thickness matters more than coating brand in service: Top 20 - 25 micron, primer 5 micron. Below roughly 20 micron total build, UV exposure in strong sun starts to chalk the surface within a few years, and the colour drifts before the steel itself shows any problem.
Formability is specified as T bend 2T at 0.5 mm gauge. This determines whether the strip can be roll formed and folded at the job site without cracking the coating over the bend radius, which is the most common cause of premature coating failure on roofing panels.

8 metric tons. Smaller trial runs are quoted separately because coating line setup cost per ton rises sharply below that volume.
15 - 25 days after deposit, counted from receipt of the deposit. Gauge, width and whether the shade is held in stock all affect the schedule.

On this specification the coating build is Top 20 - 25 micron, primer 5 micron and the expected service life is 20 years color retention in C3 environment. Durability figures assume the material is installed and maintained within the environment class stated.
Yes. On this specification the substrate is Aluzinc AZ150, S250GD or S350GD and bending performance is T bend 2T at 0.5 mm gauge, which covers normal profiling and standing seam forming.
ISO 9001, EN 10169, EN 10346. Mill certificates and third party test reports can be issued with the shipment.
