Embossing puts a shallow pattern into the coating and the steel surface beneath it, typically a leather grain or a fine stucco texture. Two things follow: reflections break up, so a large wall reads as a single matte surface, and small scratches from handling stop being visible because the texture interrupts the highlight. Combined with a matte anti chalking top coat on an aluzinc substrate, this coil is aimed squarely at wall panel systems.

The texture also helps conceal the slight waviness that appears when thin panels are fixed between supports, which is the defect most often raised at facade handover.

Does embossing reduce coating durability?

Not when the film build is increased to compensate. The texture creates local high points, so we apply a slightly heavier coat than a smooth panel of the same specification.

Can embossed and smooth panels be used on the same building?

Yes, and it is a common design choice for banding. The two surfaces reflect light differently, so the contrast should be reviewed on a physical sample before it is specified at scale.

Is the texture available in every RAL color?

Most shades can be embossed. Very dark colors show the texture more strongly, which some architects want and others do not, so a sample is always worth requesting.

How is the coating cleaned?

With water and a neutral detergent. Abrasive pads should be avoided because they flatten the texture and leave a polished patch that catches the light differently.

Packing

Coils ship eye to sky with PVC film, paper interleaving and steel strapping on wooden pallets, labelled with heat number, pattern reference and coating batch. Because an embossed surface is harder to inspect than a smooth one, each coil carries a sample tag showing the pattern against the coating batch.

Ordering and Sampling

Embossed finishes should always be approved from a physical sample rather than a photograph, since the pattern depth reads differently under direct light and in shade. We supply an A4 embossed sample carrying the pattern reference and the coating batch, so the panel maker can compare incoming coils against a known piece and reject anything that has drifted. Multi building projects typically hold the pattern record for two years, which allows an extension phase to match the original elevation rather than sitting next to it as a visibly different surface.

The substrate is Aluzinc AZ100 - AZ150. The AZ designation describes the aluminium-zinc alloy coating weight, which is what gives cut edges and drilled holes their sacrificial protection. A higher coating weight extends time to red rust, but it also changes forming behaviour, so the grade should be matched to the exposure class of the finished building.

Coating thickness matters more than coating brand in service: Top 22 - 28 micron, primer 5 micron. Below roughly 20 micron total build, UV exposure in strong sun starts to chalk the surface within a few years, and the colour drifts before the steel itself shows any problem.

Formability is specified as T bend 2T on 0.5 mm gauge. This determines whether the strip can be roll formed and folded at the job site without cracking the coating over the bend radius, which is the most common cause of premature coating failure on roofing panels.
